Be Not Afraid

Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. –Isaiah 41:10 (RSVCE)

Let’s face it. Ever since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, our world has been a scary place. Satan entered the picture, and he has not hesitated to pile evil upon evil into our lives. And we can’t do anything about it on our own. The devil’s strength and cunning are beyond ours, and if we’re not careful, a glance around the world can send us cowering into a corner in fear.

But God didn’t create us to be cowards. It’s true, on our own, we have no power over evil. But when we trust in God, anything is possible. God already defeated Satan, sin, and death. Jesus set us free, and He calls us to be dragon slayers like the great St. George—soldiers for Christ.

As Christians, this is our mission. To “be not afraid” to stab through the darkness and send the light streaming in. We fight not by our own strength, but by believing that Jesus has already won the victory. If we live out our Catholic faith, Satan has no power over us.

We have no reason to fear.
